Trails are created and persist through the repetition of movement. While many of the old paths in the Westfjords have disappeared, some maintain an imprint on the land. Our vision is to establish a trail network in the Westfjords which supports the local ecology and a more sustainable path to tourism in the region.
Whether by land or by sea, trails shape our experience of a place. This weatherproof and tear-resistant 100 cm x 70 cm (39.3 in. x 27.6 in.) fold-out map features 23 walking routes plus trails for biking and kayaking, laid on superb satellite imagery—a first for outdoor maps in Iceland. The locations of all the routes have been diligently collected by travelling with GPS recorder. Among other points of interest, the map features hot springs, pools, museums and emergency shelters.
